1. City
College Admissions Office
2. EE Higher Education Officer (HEO)
3. EE Transfer Student Advisor (TSA)
Transfer
students are required to have their official transcripts sent to
the Admissions Office. The Admissions Office screens the documents
and evaluates the transcripts for students with less than 45 credits.
If the number of credits completed is larger than 45, then the Admissions
Office sends the student's official documents to the EE Department.
The HEO evaluates credits in liberal arts, mathematics and the sciences;
the TSA evaluates credits in the professional areas. The HEO and
TSA use various tools depending upon the institution at which the
credits under consideration were completed.

Students
from other US institutions
The evaluation of credit equivalence is based on the course description
documents provided to the HEO and TSA by the original institution
through the Admissions Office, and also on course descriptions obtained
via the internet when available. A database of past credit transfers
is built to perform the consistent transfer of similar cases. Accreditation
of programs is checked through the ABET web-site www.abet.org.

Students
from foreign institutions
The credits of students from foreign institutions are evaluated
in a way similar to the previous case, but with more detailed assessments.
Additional literature published by NAFSA and AACRAO is used, which
gives the list of diplomas existing in each foreign country and
their local grading systems, with suggested equivalence with the
US system. Additional documents may be requested directly from the
student by the TSA, such as used text books and class notes. In
certain cases, the TSA may get the assistance of appropriate EE
faculty members for evaluating credits in advanced topics.
At the
final stage, the HEO and the TSA send the result of their credit
evaluation to the Admissions Office which performs the official
credit transfer.

Information
about application procedures, placement examinations, and evaluation
of transfer credits can be found in the “Admissions"
section of The City College of New York Undergraduate Bulletin 2000-2003,
page 242. For other questions, refer to the Office of Admissions,

Transfer
students from within CUNY
General
guidelines for transferring credits within the CUNY System are described
in the City University of New York Transfer Policies, with the highest
priority given to graduates of CUNY community colleges holding an
approved A.S., A.A. and A.A.S degrees. (Students pursuing a degree
in Engineering Technology should note that no technical courses
in the technology program are transferable to any engineering program.)
High priority is also given to students from CUNY senior colleges
who have completed an approved pre-engineering course of study.
Other
students are admitted to the School of Engineering or the College
of Liberal Arts and Science on the basis of the math and science
courses they have completed, the total number of credits completed,
and their college (sometimes high school) GPA. It should be noted
that transfer students without a senior college or CUNY community
college degree must meet certain minimum GPA requirements in order
to be admitted to the School of Engineering in any capacity (The
City College of New York Undergraduate Bulletin. Students who do
not meet School of Engineering criteria but who are otherwise eligible
for admission to City College may enter the College of Liberal Arts
and Science (CLAS), from which they may transfer to the School of
Engineering when appropriate.
Students
at other colleges who eventually wish to continue in engineering
are advised to select pre-engineering programs in their colleges
if such are available. The preparatory courses in these programs
may be applicable to the desired engineering degree at The City
College.
